The History of Horse Power
Horse Power is a non-profit organization whose focus is on preservation
of wild Mustang horses and Burros. Through contributions and support from
individuals like you, we can educate people and groups, raise awareness,
and contribute to the real life needs of these beautiful animals.
Because a lot of Nevadan's (including some Las Vegas elementary
students and their teacher) cared, gave of their time and talents and helped
obtain necessary signatures, Horse Power was able to submit a license plate
design that was approved on January 22, 2007, by the Commission on Special
License Plates, chaired by Senator Dennis Nolan.
The vision for this plate began with Sally Summers almost 10 years
ago after 33 horses were found senselessly slaughtered in Storey
County, Nevada. Her hope, along with others, was to raise funds
to help the plight of the wild horses and burros and to keep them from disappearing
from our land. Many articles have been written in Nevada newspapers
about this plate, its birth and how the proceeds will help the second chance
horses and burros receive protection, shelter, good care and homes. There
are also several Public Service Announcements being aired in Northern and
Southern Nevada.
A portion of the proceeds from the
purchase of this plate will go to support
our cause. By purchasing a plate, we can
all help protect and ensure the Mustangs
and Burros remain "wild and
free." They are an integral part of our western heritage and a legacy
that we want to leave for future generations.
